Safety First

Accreditation & Safety

At Wenonah, the health and safety of all participants are our highest priorities.

As an Accredited Member Camp of the Ontario Camps Association (OCA), we uphold and exceed its stringent safety and operational standards, which have been in place since 1932 to ensure quality outdoor education and summer camp experiences. Additionally, we are actively invovled with other organizations to maintain and enhance our safety regulations.

Associations

Nut Safety Policy

At Wenonah Outdoors, we maintain a nut-aware environment to ensure the safety of all participants, particularly those with life-threatening nut allergies.

For this reason, nuts, nut products, and any items potentially containing nuts are strictly prohibited on-site. This includes bulk food items lacking pre-sealed, clearly labeled packaging. It is essential for everyone to carefully read labels, as any products that pose a risk will be disposed of immediately.

Emergency Preparedness

Our centrally located Health Centre at Wenonah Outdoors provides essential first aid services.

First aid stations and kits are strategically placed throughout key areas at Wenonah. For more serious injuries, South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge is just 25 minutes away.

We also maintain various emergency resources on-site, including automated external defibrillators, spinal boards, and emergency EpiPens to ensure the safety of all participants.

Wenonah Staff

Our Outdoor Education staff are highly qualified, holding certifications in key areas such as the National Lifeguard Service (NLS), Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.

While our staff are equipped to handle immediate first aid situations, we advise that any significant injuries be assessed at the local emergency department or walk-in clinic in Bracebridge for comprehensive care.

Water Safety

Before your visit, please confirm with your school board or organizing body that our waterfront programs are suitable for your group and that all participants meet the necessary swim check standards.

Led by our experienced staff, all boating programs include both on-shore and on-water training to ensure participants grasp essential skills and safety measures. Personal flotation devices (PFDs) are mandatory at all times on the dock and in boats during activities.

Swimming occurs at our safe, sandy beach, supervised by our qualified lifeguarding team.
